IG , a big family / IG, una gran familia

Definitely, IG is becoming a big family and a great tool of communication, beyond its original intention to post and share photos with other IGers.

This week there have been two negative events, at global level, the terrible earthquake in Japan, and at an individual level, the death due to cancer of an American Iger, @thespoiledbutterfly, which reaffirm my thoughts.

I did not know Miranda Erwin. I learned about it because on Monday 14th I began to see pictures of people I follow with a new hashtag, #thespoiledbutterfly. I decided to ask what was the cause, and my colleague @gruw explained it to me. Apparently she was an Iger sick with cancer, who died unexpectedly on Monday. When everything pointed that she was recovering, she died, making it even more dramatic. She had made public her decease (which I NEVER would have done ...) This girl was in love with another Iger, James Waters, @jameswaters, and their story was public.

Regardless whether I agree or not about making public your love and illness, the beauty of it all, and what reinforces my claim that IG is a great family, is the fact that, instantaneously, a stream of tribute to this woman was created throughout her favorite color, purple. People started to post photos in purple and tag them #thespoiledbutterfly. By the time I wrote this article, 2,809 photos had been posted.

Yo no conocía a Miranda Erwin.

Of course, even though I didn´t know her, I had to post my tribute to her, and I turned into purple the last picture I had posted, a diagonal with areflection included, I tagged it and posted it in her honour. Here´s the pic.

The other event, the great earthquake in Japan, still dramatic, has triggered a wave of compassion, brotherhood, and sometimes helpless being so far away, that has resulted in an immediate hashtag, #prayforjapan, of which there are more than 14,000

I thus tagged my photo in black and white, entitled "Light at the end of the tunnel" as I considered it very appropriate in this situation.

Well, this has not been enough. Spontaneously, by several Spanish IGers, @sil8, @philgonzalez, @torres, @sonfix, @gruw, etc, it was decided to change the profile picture for a picture of Japan's flag, in tribute to them. Of course, I have been among the first ones to do so, I have been thanked by a japanese follower, @milkman0828.

In Spain, anothe hashtag has been created, #todosconjapon, and pics have already been posted with it.

Finally, all this explains why I find it worthwhile to belong to this great family, of which I personally know only a dozen people.

    Besos,

    CLARA
